SLC2A7 belongs to a family of transporters that catalyze the uptake of sugars through facilitated diffusion (Li et al., 2004). This family of transporters shows conservation of 12 transmembrane helices as well as functionally significant amino acid residues (Joost and Thorens, 2001 [PubMed 11780753]).[supplied by OMIM, Mar 2008] Function: High-affinity transporter for glucose and fructose Does not transport galactose, 2-deoxy-d-glucose and xylose. Subcellular Location: Membrane. Tissue Specificity: Expressed in small intestine and colon. Weakly expressed in testis and prostate. Similarity: Belongs to the major facilitator superfamily. Sugar transporter (TC 2.A.1.1) family. Glucose transporter subfamily.
