background: SPRY4 is an inhibitor of the receptor-transduced mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) signaling pathway. It is positioned upstream of RAS (see HRAS; MIM 190020) activation and impairs the formation of active GTP-RAS (Leeksma et al., 2002 [PubMed 12027893]).[supplied by OMIM, Mar 2008] Function: Suppresses the insulin receptor and EGFR-transduced MAPK signaling pathway, but does not inhibit MAPK activation by a constitutively active mutant Ras. Probably impairs the formation of GTP-Ras. Subcellular Location: Cytoplasm. Cell projection > ruffle membrane. Similarity: Belongs to the sprouty family. Contains 1 SPR (sprouty) domain.
