background: NUP88 is a nucleoporin that is an essential component of the nuclear pore complex. It interacts with NUP214/CAN, and is phosphorylated following DNA damage, possibly via the ATM/ATR pathway. NUP88 is also a tumour marker as it is overexpressed in a large number of malignant neoplasms and precancerous dysplasias. Function: Essential component of nuclear pore complex. Subunit: Interacts with NUP214/CAN. Subcellular Location: Nucleus, nuclear pore complex. Post-translational modifications: Phosphorylated upon DNA damage, probably by ATM or ATR.
